Step by Step

Visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art on your own can be overwhelming: its collections span thousands of years of history and encompass art from virtually every corner of the world. With this guided tour, you’ll be able to focus on some of its most important pieces, learn their stories and gain a better understanding of what you’re seeing, all in a small group of no more than 18 people.

The 2-hour ‘Highlights’ tour is designed for those who want to discover the essentials of the MET in less time. The tour may include the Ancient Egyptian tombs and models, the impressive Temple of Dendur, Henry VIII’s armour, the enigmatic Chalice of Antioch, Greek and Roman sculptures, and works by artists such as Monet, Van Gogh and Rodin.

If you’d prefer a more comprehensive tour, the extended 3-hour option allows more time to explore other great works and artistic periods in greater depth. You’ll be able to discover works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Picasso and John Singer Sargent, admire the stained-glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany, and learn about stories such as those surrounding *The Death of Socrates* or *Washington Crossing the Delaware*.

Weather permitting, the tour can end on the museum’s terrace, with views over Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
