Step by Step
Seeing Bangkok from the Chao Phraya River is one of the most enjoyable ways to discover the city. This cruise combines sailing, nightlife and a panoramic view of some of the Thai capital's most iconic sights. Depending on the option chosen, you can experience it as a sunset cruise without dinner or as a more complete evening with buffet on board.
The activity is offered in three different modalities. The sunset cruise is the lightest and most panoramic option, ideal for those who want to sail at the end of the day without dinner. The dinner cruise adds a Thai and international buffet, while the Indian dinner cruise includes an Indian menu. The dinner options also include a welcome drink, coffee, tea, live music and, on selected options, free beer.
During the cruise, the ship passes close to some of Bangkok's great icons. These include Wat Arun, with its spectacular Cambodian-style tower; the Grand Royal Palace, one of the country's most important monumental complexes; and the Rama VIII Bridge, easily recognisable by its asymmetrical design. You can also see from the river the National Museum of Royal Barges, Asiatique The Riverfront, Iconsiam, Phra Sumen Fort and Wat Rakang Kositaram, known as the Temple of Bells.
The tour allows you to admire closely such outstanding places as Wat Arun, a Cambodian-style temple complex built on the right bank of the river and crowned by a tower of more than 80 metres; the Grand Royal Palace, where the famous Emerald Buddha is located; or the Rama VIII Bridge, which links the historic area of Visutkasat with Arun Amarin and stands out for its asymmetrical structure. You'll also see the National Museum of Royal Barges, with its richly decorated vessels, and such lively enclaves as Asiatique The Riverfront and Iconsiam, one of the city's most luxurious shopping centres.
The cruise also passes by the Phra Sumen Fort, one of the few surviving remnants of Bangkok's ancient defensive wall, and close to Wat Rakang Kositaram, famous for its great bell and its importance in the city's religious history. All this makes the cruise a very comprehensive way to see Bangkok from a more relaxed, visual and elegant perspective.
Another important aspect is embarkation, as not all departures operate from the same place. You can find departures from Iconsiam Pier, Asiatico Pier or Terminal 21 Mall (Rama 3). The Iconsiam counter is on the G floor of the Sooksiam area, behind Naraya; the Asiatico counter is in Warehouse No. 7; and the Terminal 21 Mall (Rama 3) counter is on the G floor, Gate 4. For the Indian buffet, the operation recommends boarding at Terminal 21 Rama 3.
All in all, this is a very versatile experience to enjoy Bangkok from an elegant and relaxed perspective. Whether as a sunset stroll or a dinner cruise, this activity allows you to combine sights, ambience and sailing in one of Southeast Asia's most vibrant cities.
