La Graciosa is a very quiet and manageable island: only 20 minutes by ferry from Lanzarote, it can be explored by bike, by jeep and of course by boat.

If you want to make the most of your visit to this jewel of the Atlantic, it's best to join an excursion that allows you to make the most of your time. Here's everything you need to know to enjoy the day.

The best option

La Graciosa Day Trip from Lanzarote

Discover La Graciosa on a day trip from Lanzarote

This is the best option to discover the island: you will embark by ferry from Lanzarote and board a spectacular sailing boat to sail along the coast of La Graciosa. Lunch on board is included.

Duration: 5 hours 30 minutes

The adventure begins at 11am. You'll arrive at the village of Caleta, in La Graciosa, and you'll have an hour to stroll around at your leisure, discover the area around the island's port and familiarise yourself with the surroundings. You will then embark on a luxury catamaran to sail around the island and discover the sights of this natural spot.

The boat is perfectly equipped for you to sunbathe and enjoy yourself on board, but there will also be swimming stops and snorkelling opportunities. At lunchtime, a traditional paella will be served on board so you don't have to worry about anything but enjoying your time on the boat.

If you feel like kayaking, ask the crew so they can show you how and where to do it and even lend you the necessary equipment.

Why I like this excursion: this is the most comfortable way to discover La Graciosa from Lanzarote without having to worry about ferry schedules, how to organise transport, finding a place to eat, etc.

Recommended if .... would like to complete your trip to Lanzarote with a boat trip on the coast of La Graciosa.

It's best to book online in advance to make sure you find a place and availability on the dates you want. The boat has a limited capacity and the number of people entering La Graciosa each day is also limited by the number of places on the ferries. If you want to choose dates with peace of mind or even compare routes and timetables, do it online.

Also, the good thing about booking online is that if, once you get there, you happen to have bad weather that day and the excursion is cancelled, they will offer you an alternative date or refund your booking fee.

La Graciosa can only be reached by ferry or on an organised excursion and you should note that you will not be able to take your hire car on board the ferry, so once you arrive on La Graciosa you will need to book a shuttle service to get around the island.

The number of vehicles on La Graciosa is limited, so you'll need an official service, so if you're planning to spend just one day there, it's best to book an organised excursion so you don't have to worry about finding your own way around.

Is it worth going to La Graciosa from Lanzarote?

Yes, of course! Lanzarote is a relatively large island, with plenty of leisure activities, beaches and spectacular scenery, but hopping over to the small island of La Graciosa will complete your trip with a unique natural setting. The island is practically uninhabited, its roads are unspoilt and its beaches are extremely quiet.

If you decide to visit La Graciosa from Lanzarote you will add a very interesting contrast to your trip: you will spend a day completely relaxed, enjoying nature and understanding the way of life of the inhabitants of this small island that will steal your heart as soon as you get to know it.

If you've already decided to visit this natural gem, here are a few tips to make your stay there a wonderful one.

What to bring

The best recommendation is to wear comfortable, cool clothes, but also add a jacket to your backpack in case it gets a bit windy on board. Don't forget your swimming costume or bikini, sun cream and a hat or cap. You'll be out on the water all day, so comfortable, waterproof footwear will also come in handy.

If you want, you can also take some snacks with you to kill the munchies, but food will be served on board the catamaran, so you don't have to worry about bringing a packed lunch.

Best day of the week to do the excursion

Any day of the week is good. One of the great advantages of La Graciosa is that due to its small size and the limited number of places to stay on the island, you won't find overcrowding. There will probably be more people on weekends than during the week (the same goes for public holidays), but you won't have to worry about crowds or tourist overcrowding. Welcome to paradise!

Best time of the year to do the excursion

As on any Canary Island, the climate is mild all year round: you won't get too hot or too cold, so any time of the year is perfect to enjoy this excursion. There's no winter cold here, so you'll be able to jump into the sea even if you're travelling in the middle of December. It's a real treat.

This excursion is very complete, as it allows you to take a walk at your own pace and you will also have the opportunity to discover the island from the sea on board the catamaran. If you still want more and want to stay a few days in La Graciosa, you can also tour the island by jeep, rent a bike and, of course, enjoy its quiet beaches. A paradise for disconnection from which you will return refreshed (if you really decide to return).
