Nestled in the Lombardy region of Italy, Lago di Como offers plenty of activities to enjoy the scenery. From sunset boat rides, walks along the region's hiking trails, bike tours and even guided tours of medieval castles, it's a place you can discover in many ways.

That's why I'll give you a selection of some of the best things to do in Lago di Como, including interesting activities such as cooking classes and wine tastings, to get to know the local gastronomy.

On this boat tour you will see some of the most beautiful places in one of the lake's basins, including Villa d'Este, Villa Le Rose, Villa Pizzo, Villa Erba, Villa Oleandra and Villa Fontanelle, the latter being very famous because it is the historic residence of Versace. You will ride on the bike path along the entire length of the Adda River, to travel on two wheels from the Colico region to the Adda Bridge. On the way you will have the opportunity to look at amazing landscapes and take pictures of Valtellina and Valchiavenna.

Once you reach the Natural Reserve of Pian di Spagna, your guide will tell you the details about this crossroads which is an ideal place for birds that usually live in humid areas.

This is a class in which your teacher will teach you how to prepare classic and traditional dishes from Lombardy. The best thing about this activity is that it is private, meaning that only you and your group take part.

It's quite a family activity because it won't take place in a cooking school, but a chef Cesarino will welcome you at his home to give you the Milanese style cooking lesson. During the lesson you will learn how to prepare a complete menu consisting of several traditional Italian dishes: polenta, risotto, meatballs, osso bucco and tiramisu.

After cooking you will be able to enjoy the food you have created, along with wine pairings. You can take all the Italian recipes home with you afterwards.

One of the highlights of this tour is the aerial views of the coastline and the most beautiful villages around Lago di Como.

You will also get to see from the air, some of the properties belonging to well-known stars such as George Clooney, Madonna and Richard Branson, which are not only beautiful villas, but also have picturesque gardens.

I love to recommend this tour because during the 18 minute experience, you will also have the opportunity to admire incredible views of the lake from above and take lots of photos to remember the trip by. In the helicopter you'll fly around the old lighthouse, pass between the mountains and take in the turquoise blue of the lake.

The activity starts in Bellagio, from where you will paddle along the Pescallo bay, straight to the Rockefeller cliffs. You'll be delighted to see the villas that stand on the hills around Bellagio, all photo-worthy.

On this wine tasting tour you will start by visiting a winery in Domaso, at Lago di Como. You will enjoy a tour through an authentic wine estate that is steeped in history and has been cultivated generation after generation.

Not only will you taste wines, but you will also enjoy the local flavours and specialities selected to complete the wine pairing. All this happens while learning about the viticulture of Northern Italy.

In addition, you will learn in detail about the evolution of the family winery you will be visiting, as well as the stages of wine production. As for the wine tasting, you should know that you will taste around three varieties of wine.
