Step by Step
Your experience begins at The Battery, at the southern tip of Manhattan, where you’ll meet your guide before boarding the ferry to Liberty Island. During the crossing, you’ll be able to enjoy views of the harbour and the New York skyline whilst you begin to discover the history of one of the world’s most recognisable monuments.
Upon arriving at Liberty Island, you’ll explore the area around the Statue of Liberty whilst your guide tells you how the project came about, how it was brought over from France and how it eventually became a universal symbol of freedom. You’ll also be able to visit the Statue of Liberty Museum, which houses artefacts related to its construction, including its original torch.
If you’re short on time, you can opt for the express tour, which lasts around 2 hours and focuses on Battery Park, the ferry, Liberty Island and the museum. After the guided part, you’re free to explore on your own; if you wish, you can also disembark at Ellis Island, although this visit isn’t included in the express tour.
For a more comprehensive experience, choose the approximately 4-hour tour, which continues by ferry to Ellis Island. Following an introduction by the guide, you’ll have time to explore the National Museum of Immigration at your own pace, use its official audio guide and learn about the stories of the millions of immigrants who arrived in the United States via this island. When you’ve finished, you can return with the guide or stay longer on Ellis Island and then take the ferry back.
