Step by Step

This tour from Inverness is a true immersion into Scotch whisky culture, combining history, tradition and spectacular scenery in the north of Scotland. Accompanied by an expert guide, you'll tour the Speyside region, the heartland of malt whisky, famous for being home to more distilleries than anywhere else in the world.

The journey begins in the morning, heading east through the Cairngorms National Park, with its heather-covered mountains and unforgettable scenery. The first stop is at the Cardhu Distillery, founded in 1824 by a whisky smuggler and his wife. Today, this distillery plays a key role in the famous Johnnie Walker blends. Here you can take part in the optional 'Nip Round' experience , where you will learn about the history of the distillery and enjoy a guided tasting of two whiskies, exploring their nuances and aromas.

The tour then continues to the Speyside Cooperage, a fascinating visitor centre where you will discover the ancient art of cask making. Watch live demonstrations by master coopers, learn about the traditional tools and understand how the casks influence the final flavour of the whisky. This process is an essential part of the character and quality of every Scotch distillate.

After the visit, the tour stops in the historic town of Elgin, where you'll have free time for lunch and a stroll through the charming streets. Take the opportunity to sample local specialities or visit some of the traditional shops before continuing the tour.

The last stop will be at the Benromach distillery, a family-run business that preserves traditional craft production techniques. Here you can take an optional guided tour, where the expert distillers will explain how they make their whisky relying solely on their experience and senses. The tour culminates with a tasting of three award-winning whiskies, reflecting the pure taste and heritage of Speyside.

After a day full of history, tastings and unforgettable scenery, you'll head back to Inverness with a soul full of Scottish spirit.

I was surprised by the collection: rare bottles, old labels. During the tasting I got slightly dizzy, but well controlled.
