This lunch or dinner experience in Venice lasts around 3 hours and will give you an insight into the culinary tradition. You’ll be welcomed into a local family’s home and enjoy a full three-course meal. After a welcome aperitif of sparkling wine or prosecco, you’ll savour some of the specialities, such as:

  • Sardine in saor: tasty sardines marinated in a sweet-and-sour sauce.
  • Seppie al nero: cuttlefish cooked in a rich black sauce made with squid ink.
  • Risotto di gò: a fish typical of the Venetian lagoon.

The experience ends with some traditional sweets such as bacoli, biscuits that originated in the Republic of Venice in the late 18th century. They’re perfect for dunking in coffee or fortified wines.

    The meal was plentiful and quite different from the usual fare. Just a word of warning: it’s best to go with an open mind, as some of the flavours from the lagoon are quite strong.
