Step by Step
This tour of the Kolymbehtra Garden and the Hypogeum in Agrigento will transport you to an underground world that will surprise you at every step. For approximately 40 minutes, you will walk through the underground tunnels and cavities of a hypogeum dating back to the 5th century BC.
You will be accompanied by an expert local guide, who will take you through the ancient aqueduct system and tell you all the relevant information about this special place. This network of tunnels provided water to Akragas (present-day Agrigento) and dates back to the construction of the city in 480 BC.
You will be provided with a helmet and a torch to keep you safe and make the most of the experience. Once back on the surface, you can take the opportunity to visit the Kolymbethra Garden on your own.
Here you will see impressive plants, rock formations and huge cacti that have been left untouched by the passage of time. Please note that in order to access the Kolymbethra Garden and take this guided tour, you must purchase a ticket for the Valley of the Temples (not included).
