Experience Highlights

Explore some of the places that best illustrate the history of Berlin and its surroundings on this coach tour to Sachsenhausen and Potsdam. Over approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes, you’ll combine a panoramic tour of Berlin with a visit to the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp and a stop in the historic city of Potsdam.

You can choose between a guided tour or the ‘At your own pace’ option. The full tour includes commentary during the visit to Sachsenhausen and a walking tour of Potsdam, whilst the self-guided option includes transport but allows you to explore both places independently.

The itinerary combines two very different facets of German history: the legacy of the 20th century at Sachsenhausen and the elegance of the palaces and gardens of Potsdam, the former residence of the kings of Prussia.

  • Visit the Sachsenhausen Memorial and discover one of the most harrowing sites in European history

  • Discover the palaces and gardens of Potsdam

  • Choose between a guided tour or a self-guided tour

Step by Step

The excursion begins in Berlin with a panoramic bus tour before heading to the Sachsenhausen Memorial, situated on the outskirts of the capital. During the journey, you’ll leave the city behind as you make your way to one of Germany’s most important sites of historical remembrance.

At Sachsenhausen, you can explore areas such as the former barracks, detention zones, barbed-wire fences and memorials commemorating the camp’s victims. If you opt for the guided tour, the visit helps to put into context how the site operated and the role it played during the Nazi regime. With the self-guided option, you can explore it independently and, if you wish, hire an audio guide there.

Afterwards, the coach continues on to Potsdam, where the atmosphere changes completely. Here you’ll find monumental gardens, elegant avenues and palaces linked to the former Prussian court, such as the grounds of Sanssouci Palace, the residence of Frederick the Great.

With the guided tour, you’ll walk through some of these sites and gain a deeper understanding of the city’s history, its palaces and its gardens. With the ‘At your own pace’ option, you’ll have time to discover Potsdam on your own and decide which areas you’d like to explore at a more leisurely pace.

The day thus combines three different experiences in a single itinerary: a panoramic introduction to Berlin, a visit of great historical significance in Sachsenhausen, and a much more monumental finale in Potsdam.

The tour is impressive, you immerse yourself in history in a unique way, but the free time in Potsdam could be a bit longer.
