Step by Step
Discover the historical soul of Split through a unique tour that will take you in the footsteps of Diocletian, a local peasant who became a Roman emperor and left behind one of the most impressive palaces of antiquity. Today, the palace is part of the centre of Split and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The tour starts at the Golden Gate, the most imposing entrance to the palace, and continues through its main streets to the Peristyle, the central square where Diocletian greeted his subjects. Along the way, your guide will show you other fascinating sites such as the Temple of Jupiter and the former mausoleum of the emperor, now the Cathedral of St. Diocletian.
During the walk you will also visit the ancient underground vaults, full of stories and secrets, and end up at the vibrant Riva promenade, from where you can continue exploring Split on your own, discover its gastronomy or relax by the sea.
To enhance the experience in crowded places, a mandatory individual audio system is provided at a nominal cost of €2 per person. The guide will distribute the devices at the beginning of the tour, so it is recommended to bring cash in euros.
How does a free tour work?
A free tour is a guided walking tour without a fixed price. At the end of the tour, it is up to you to evaluate the quality of the service with your contribution to the guide.
