Real Madrid’s stadium is one of the most important in the world. Listing all the historic milestones that have taken place on its pitch would take too long. Throughout its long history, the Merengue club has been covered in glory and thousands of football fans flock here to see the 15 European Cups. However, there is plenty to see on the Santiago Bernabéu stadium tour. So, depending on availability and the time of year, you may have the chance to see:

  • ‘Best Club in History’, an audiovisual experience that recounts the club’s history.
  • The Presidential Box, the most exclusive area. Its seats are reserved for directors, dignitaries and guests.
  • Interactive Tour, taken aboard a replica of the first-team bus.
  • The Trophy Room, the stadium’s showpiece. The collection is extensive and includes shirts, Ballon d’Or trophies won by legends such as Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Figo (among others), Golden Boots and all the cups won over more than a century of history. Screens show the team’s most important goals.
  • Changing rooms.
  • Players’ tunnel, to experience the adrenaline rush of match days.
  • Pitch and dugouts, where Real Madrid fans’ dreams come true.

How to get to the Santiago Bernabéu

Madrid Metro| ©Tim Adams
Madrid Metro| ©Tim Adams

The legendary Real Madrid stadium is located just a few metres from Paseo de la Castellana, one of the city’s longest thoroughfares. Situated in the Hispanoamérica business district – part of the Chamartín district – it benefits from a transport network that ensures quick journeys to both the city centre and Barajas Airport.

If a tour of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium is on your list of things to do in Madrid, you can choose from the following options to get there:

  • Metro – The “Santiago Bernabéu” stop (line 10) is just a short walk from the stadium. If you’re staying near Puerta del Sol, you can take line 1 towards Pinar de Chamartín, get off at Tribunal and then take line 10. The journey takes about half an hour. If you’re coming directly from the airport, you have two options: if you land at Terminal 4, you can take the Cercanías (C1 or C10) to Chamartín and, once there, take line 10 to the “Santiago Bernabéu” stop. Alternatively, if you land at Terminals 1, 2 or 3, you can reach the stadium via metro line 8
  • Bus – Routes 14, 27, 40, 43, 120, 126, 147 and 150 connect various parts of the capital with the Whites’ stadium
  • Train – Nuevos Ministerios station is about a ten-minute walk from the Santiago Bernabéu.
  • Car – If you have a hire car, simply enter the stadium’s address into your sat-nav. Once you arrive, you’ll need to park in a pay-and-display car park. However, this isn’t the most convenient option. During matches, many streets are closed to traffic.

So, there’s no shortage of options when it comes to eating out.

Read on and discover our selection of bars and restaurants just a stone’s throw from the Merengue stadium.

  • Cervecería José Luis, the classic among classics. Real Madrid fans flock to this bar for a few beers before the match (Paseo de la Habana 4).
  • New York Burger, a meat-lover’s paradise. Their speciality is slow-smoked cooking. If you’re not in the mood for a burger, you can opt for a ribeye or a Black Angus rib (Paseo de la Castellana 89).
  • Materia Prima, a market-style restaurant just a few metres from the stadium. Its specialities include Russian salad, steak tartare and seafood ceviche (Calle Doctor Fleming 7).
  • Puerta 57, the Bernabéu viewpoint. The main attraction is the large glass window overlooking the stadium pitch. It serves tapas, small plates and daily specials. If you love football, this is an unmissable stop (Calle Padre Damián s/n). Another option for enjoying the view over the pitch is the Real Café Bernabéu. It is famous for its breakfasts and brunch (Avenida Concha Espina 1).
  • Goa, the temple of Basque meat. Txistorras, T-bone steaks and sirloins arrive directly from Oyarzun, a town in the province of Guipúzcoa. On match days, you can watch the game on their screens (Calle Doctor Fleming 7, 28036 Madrid).
  • Taberna del Volapié, a chain specialising in Andalusian cuisine. The menu is varied and includes healthy salads, sandwiches, fish dishes, croquettes and much more (Paseo de la Castellana 144).
